Rental terms

The rental period can take effect any day of the week.

Arrival and departure; minimum stay:

You can arrive and depart on any given day. There is a minimal stay requirement of 7 nights. You can access the home after 16:00 on the day of arrival and we would like to request that you leave the home at the very latest at 10:00 on the day of departure. This is to allow the cleaner enough time to prepare the villa for the arrival of the next guests. If, on the day of departure you would like to remain in the villa until the evening, (for example if you have an evening flight) then you can make use of a late check-out option. (please see the price list) A late check-out will allow you to use the home until 19:00. If you have chosen for a transfer then our caretakers will be waiting for you as you exit the airport. They will bring you to Villa Paulina and give you the key to the home. If you have not booked a transfer, then our caretakers will meet you at Villa Paulina. You will receive a map with directions from the airport to the home. The caretakers will show you around and make a note of the electricity and water meters. You can contact them throughout your stay should the circumstances arise. There is a portfolio in the house with extensive instructions on the use of the appliances in the home. If necessary the caretaker will give additional information. On the day of departure the caretaker will go through the check-out procedure with you and again make a note of the water and electricity meters.

Use of the villa:

The villa is allowed to be used as a holiday villa only. You are expected to adapt your way of living to the local customs of upscale neighborhoods on Curaçao. This means that there should be no noise disturbance and no offence is made by nudism or topless sunbathing. Partying or gathering with more people than those which have been booked for the villa, is prohibited unless the owner or, on his behalf, the care taker, has given prior written permission. Please contact the owner or care taker when you want to invite other people or are planning a party.

Rates:

The published rates are in EURO (€) and depend on the amount of bedrooms you want to use. Per bedroom a maximum of 2 people applies but a crib can be placed in one of the booked bedrooms at no extra charge. Please ask when making bookings. Rooms which are not booked for your rental, will be locked during your stay but they will not be used by other people. The villa will only be used by you. The costs of the final cleaning (at your departure) are mentioned in the rate section as well. This will depend on the amount of bedrooms used. As the costs of electricity are extremely high on Curaçao, there is a maximum ‘normal’ use included in the nightly rate; please see the rate section. If you use more, this will be charged at local rate €0,30/KWH 2010.

Pre-reservation option, reservation, payment and deposit:

Before you make reservations you can have a pre-reservation option. This will give you the opportunity to arrange flights. As long as your option lasts, the villa will not be rented to somebody else. The length of the pre-reservation option will depend on the availability and will be agreed upon prior to the period, which will usually be a few days to a week. If somebody else wants to make bookings in this time, you will have first choice for the next 24 hours. The expiration date of the option is clearly stated by e-mail. The option expires automatically after the expiration date. On the page Availability of this website you can check reservations and options. Options are marked in blue. This page is updated frequently. When you make a reservation, your reservation will be held for 10 days. You will receive a booking confirmation by e-mail which is also the invoice ( and rental agreement). In these 10 days your first down payment (25% of the rent) must be paid to the owner, or your reservation will be cancelled. If your reservation is cancelled due to the fact that you have not paid the initial down payment, then a minimum cancellation fee of € 125,- applies. The balance (the other 75% and the costs for final cleaning, other items and deposit) must be paid no later then 6 weeks before arrival. If a booking is made but the deposit is not paid within the first 10 days, the reservation may be cancelled. The deposit is € 400,- for up to 6 people, € 600,- for 7 people and more. The deposit is returned within 14 days after departure; if there are any damages which you are responsible, these costs of that will be deducted. The villa is inspected by our care taker at your departure.

Included/not included in the rental rate:

Included: electricity (incl. air conditioning) up to the use stated in the rate section of this website; water, gas; cleaning prior to arrival and during your stay (weekly, only for stays more than 7 nights), bed linens, towels, maintenance of garden and pool, use of ADSL-internet.
Not included: Extra use of electricity (will be deducted from the deposit, cost € €0,30/KWH; our caretaker will check the meter at your arrival and departure), final cleaning, transportation from and to the airport (if desired: € 12,50 per person, 2-ways), bank or credit card costs for payments of the villa, phone and other personal costs.

Water and Electricity:

The rates of electricity and water are very high in Curacao in comparison to the rates in Europe. The fees for water and electricity are included within the normal rent. (Please refer to the price listings) We assume that the tenant will use these services responsibly. Should it be the case that that the tenant uses unnecessary amounts of water and electricity, or is irresponsible with the use, then the costs will be charged to the tenant. By irresponsible we mean leaving the faucet running for a long time with no clear purpose, leaving the air conditioning on without closing the windows and doors, or by not turning off the air conditioning when leaving the room. We kindly request that you keep an eye on these things.

Loss and theft:

The landlord takes no responsibility for the loss or theft of personal belongings in or around the villa.

Children:

Children which sleep in a children’s cot (60x120 cm, 24x48 inch), can stay for free IF this cot is placed in one of the booked bedrooms. Of course we will provide the crib with the linens and towels.

Bed linens and towels:

During your stay we will provide the following amount of bed linens and towels:

Bed linens: at arrival all the beds are made up en they will be refreshed after (about) every 8 days by our cleaning team. However, you will receive an extra set of bed linens so you can change in between these 8 days if you like. If you want to have another (extra) set of bed linens, this is available on request and at ANG 7,50 per person (to be paid before your departure, to the caretaker).
Towels: you will receive (per person booked) and per week: 2 beach towels, 2 bath towels, 2 small towels and 3 small washing cloths. If you want to have another (extra) set of towels, this is available on request and at ANG 15,- per person (to be paid before your departure, to the caretaker).

Damages:

We expect that you will use our home with care, as you do with your own home. Nevertheless, an accident can happen and something may be broken or damaged. To assure that the next renter doesn’t suffer the inconvenience of this, we strongly request that you inform the caretaker at once. If damages are your responsibility, they will be charged to you, but if they are below € 25,- (per stay), we will not charge for them IF you inform the caretaker or the owner within 7 days after your departure.

Departure:

The caretaker will inform you during your stay how we expect you to leave the villa (at your departure). Final cleaning is inclusive but appliances in the kitchen should be left clean. If you want some help in this by a maid, that can be arranged at slight extra costs. Ask the caretaker during your stay.

Cancellations:

If you have to cancel your reservation, we will try to rent the villa for the same dates. The following conditions apply:

If the villa is rented again in full for your originally booked dates: then a cancellation fee of € 125,- applies;
If the villa is rented again for part of your originally booked dates: then a cancellation fee of € 125,- applies plus the rental rate of the nights which are not rented; maximum is your full rental rate of the originally booked dates;
If the villa is not rented again: full agreed rental rate for your originally booked dates

If you leave the villa earlier than agreed in the rental agreement, there is no refund. We strongly advise you to have cancellation insurance.
P.S.: A change in the number of booked bedrooms is generally not regarded as a cancellation.

Smoking policy:

For the convenience of all our guests, our smoking policy is clear: it is not permitted inside the house and inside the car, but on the premises (outside), you are allowed to do so if you like. But please take care as there is the risk of fire, it can be dry and windy on Curaçao. Please do use the ashtrays provided.

Naturism and topless sunbathing:

We have to point out that, because of the villa’s location in a neighborhood with other houses, naturism is not permitted at anytime. Topless sunbathing is permitted as long as neighbors don’t complain or clearly (visibly) reject this. Please remember that customs and habits on this point may be different on Curaçao compared with your own country.

Caretaker:

The villa is cared for by Doeneska Paulina. As the villa is cared for as a vacation home, it needs to be cleaned regularly; also the garden and pool have to be maintained and sometimes there have to be repairs which cannot wait until the next not-booked dates. As a consequence, the people on behalf of Villa Paulina have to enter the villa and/or the premises sometimes. Of course, they will contact you in advance when this occurs, but in the majority of the cases you won’t have to stay at the villa as they have keys of their own. Generally, they will leave a message in the villa after they have entered.
